Sony To Develop 3D Firmware For PS3
”If I had to pick one piece of technology I thought was going to be massive in 2010 it would have to be 3D. Since the release of the awesome Avatar companies have gone skitz over developing better 3D technology, and this year will be a breakthrough in home entertainment.
Sony have announced that the next firmware update this summer will include 3D capabilities, opening the door for 3D Blu ray movies (you can pick your chin up off the floor now) and of course 3D games. The scope for this is immense, if it’s used properly it will turn the home entertainment market up on it’s head, companies will fight for dominance in the market, leading to price wars, which will benefit the consumer massively.
The main attraction is that it’s a firmware update, so you won’t need to go out and buy an expensive add on. With the release of Xbox’s highly anticipated project Natal this November, this will certainly give Sony some leverage over Microsoft.
3D stereoscopic entertainment is the official title of this update, and I think it marks the beginning of a new entertainment era, I for one am very very excited this year. Stay tuned for an update nearer the time.
Will this new technology be a major breakthrough? tell us what you think.”
